Save the Polka Centre

The Wells community is coming together in an effort to reinstate childcare services in the town following the closure of the much-loved Polka Centre in December. As a result of the centre closing, there are now no childcare facilities with spaces for under-2s in a 10 mile radius, no before or after school services, and nothing to cover school holidays. Not to mention the impact on the fantastic local people that work at Polka too. Peter Fisher, District Councillor for Wells, said: “Polka daycare was established in 1971 and provided full nursery services which meant that local parents could work a full day while their children were in a fantastic, safe environment. “It isn’t acceptable that the County Council say there isn’t the demand to re-open it. “We’ll fight to reinstate full services and ensure that Wells isn’t left behind when it comes to childcare.
