Our vision for North Walsham

Liberal Democrat Councillors have enabled the biggest investment in the town centre for decades and now intend to build on that success over the next four years.

If elected we will listen to you and work for you to ensure that our town continues to evolve to meet everyone’s needs and expectations.

Our priorities for continuing to build a market town for the 21st century include:

  1. Sustainable Community Led Development

As your Councillors we will work to ensure that as our town grows:

  • Essential road, schools, health care and environmental infrastructure is delivered in full
  • Developments promote high standards of layout, environment and sustainable design and building methods
  • Significant affordable housing and suitable housing and care provision for older people is included
  • Proper provision is made for community facilities, education and health care.
  1. Economic Development

North Walsham is an attractive location for a range of businesses. We will continue to encourage:

  • Further specialist shops and hospitality businesses in the town centre
  • Warehouse style trade/retail services and tech industry services in appropriate locations.
  • We will work to ensure that a link road between Cromer Rd and the industrial estate is built to open up the land allocated there for economic development at the earliest opportunity and to remove heavy goods vehicles from residential streets.
  1. Environment

We will work to make our town an exemplar of sustainable development, building on the achievements of the last four years by:

  • Ensuring sufficient green spaces and environmental corridors in all developments
  • Supporting sustainable transport – bus, rail, cycling and walking
  • Seeking to ensure that all new building is as carbon neutral and energy efficient as possible.
  • Reducing pollution by working with County Highways to ease traffic flows and remove HGVs from residential areas.
  • Holding Anglian Water to account over discharges from the Marshgate treatment works.
